“Throwing Snowballs At Cars”

Real life intrudes on three boys busy throwing snowballs at cars.

OPENING SENTENCE(S):

We’d seen some pissed off people in our time, but this guy was in a class all his own. He left his beautiful bronze-and-copper ’68 Hurst Olds 442 sitting in the middle of the dark and snowy December street, red air scoop shuttering to the chug chug chug chuuug gasp beat of the four-barrel carb and oversized cam, barely over the train tracks on Custer Avenue, our favorite snowball target range.
To us throwing snowballs at cars was like a winter baseball league: Conditioning for the real thing in the summer. Not all drivers saw it that way, apparently.
